The Governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the November 8 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Sir Paul Chukwuma has declared that Anambra State is a broken state .
He said that the essence of his contesting for the Governorship election is to fix Anambra State and give it back to Ndi Anambra, insisting that the challenges facing Anambra State is purely human made challenges.
He equally maintained that the Insecurity ravaging the state and infrastructural decay is caused by insensitive of the current administration in Anambra state, affirming that Federal government of Nigeria is consistently disbursing funds for the state but the state government failed to utilize it for its purposes.
Sir Paul Chukwuma made the assertion while addressing the academic of higher institutions in Anambra State on a program tagged” Academics for Better Anambra State, Mid Day Interaction”, convened by Professor O. Jaja Nwanegbo at Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Secretariat, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.
According to Paul Chukwuma, Anambra State has 21 local government area but very unfortunate that most of the local government were neglected. In the last three years, Ayamelum has been cut off in terms of access roads.
He disclosed that he has commenced palliative measure to ensure that there is access roads to easy movement in Ayamelum area, citing Insecurity, non- teachers welfare and low salaries as another big challenges to the state.
“Anambra State supposed not to be suffering Insecurity because they are getting 4billion Naira only for security votes every month but the Governor is busy doing nothing to rescue lives and properties of the citizens” Chukwuma posited.
Paul Chukwuma who is also a lawyer said that he would focus on 3-point agenda to fix Anambra which included; Human Capital Development, Infrastructural and adequate security net work.
He said he would deal with the root causes of Insecurity within the first year in office if he is elected, highlighting that he would establish data base in all local government areas, giving names to all streets across Anambra State, mounts CCTV cameras in all nooks and crannies of the state, install model technology for security, set- up community policing, and empower local vigilante.
He further pledged to fix Anambra through human capital development and Infrastructure including; Increase Teachers salaries and civil servants in the state, establish teachers quarters, establish skills acquisition for the youths and unemployed, pay attention to Universities, set up agencies to oversee Umu boi (Apprentice) as well as set up industries, and restore power supply as well as build Sea port to boost commerce and trade in the state.
Paul Chukwuma also hinted that he will fix ecological challenges, ensure that Anambra State is returned to rule of law, and grant autonomy to local government Areas and ensure that House Assembly is Independent, and eliminate Ndi aka-Odo.
Institutions in attendance program included; Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Frederal College of Education Umunze, Nwaoforizu College of Education Nsugbe, Legacy University Okija, amongst other.
