Onitsha Main Market, Ogbaru Main Market and two other markets in Onitsha have observed the compulsory Monday Sanitation exercise ordered by the Anambra State Government.
It would be recalled that the Special adviser to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on Market , Sir Everstus Ubah, ordered all the Markets in Anambra State to use Mondays and clean up in their various Market’s environment.
However, when newsmen went to Onitsha Main Market, the Chairman of the Market, Chief Innocent Ezeoha was sighted moving with his Executives round all the zones in the market monitoring compliance among traders.
Speaking shortly with newsmen, Chief Ezeoha said that traders would gradually start coming out to open their shops and equally observe the sanitation exercise, stating that some are still watching whether it would be a reality that markets should be opened on Mondays.
He said that Main Market Onitsha is a unique market as regards sanitation exercise hence their market has standard structures which he said they follow, stressing that every evening immediately trading activities closed, they sweep all the market environment and wait for tomorrow’s business actions.
“We have a waste dump where all the wastes are deposited. So, every sanitation exercise, we open it and evacuate deposited wastes. The issue of sanitation in Anambra is not clearing refuse but evacuating it is always a problems”
“We have already started sensitizing the traders on the imperatives of sanitation and they should support both Monday sanitation and prayers so that our brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would be released from the hands of his captives because he committed no offense”
He equally took newsmen round the Market to see for themselves healthcare facilities which according to him were abandoned by his predecessors, but he rehabilitated them when he became the market Chairman.
He disclosed that the Health clinic for the traders would soon be commissioned by Governor Soludo, stating that everything is in place and both doctors and nurses are ready.
Similarly, the main market Prayer Coordinator, Brother Uche Emefo said that prayer is a good weapon to fight for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and advised all and sundry to support Market prayer and sanitation.
Furthermore, at Ogbaru Main Market, the Chairman of the Market, Mr. Ndubuisi Ochiogu stated that everything was moving fine and traders complied with the sanitation order. He expressed satisfaction over the level of sanitation compliances in their market
He noted that after sanitation in the Market, they fumigated all the nooks and crannies and conducted prayers before they open shops.
Also speaking, the Chairman of all chairmen in the market, Mr. Chinyelugo Maduka who was flanked by the Secretary of all secretaries said that the initiative to commence prayers in the Market on Mondays is a good idea and a wonderful gesture to appeal to God so that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s captives should release him.
Other Markets which opened included; Bridgehead Market and Ogbo-abada Market.
