Match-fixing Scandal Rocks Two Nigerian Football Clubs

Two Nigerian club sides, Hypebuzz FC and Beautiful Tour FC in the country’s division three league are currently being investigated by organizers for involvement suspected match fixing.

According to Best Choice Sports, the league organisers is investigating a match between the two teams for probable compromise.

The two are are based in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory.

The match in ‘Group H2A” saw Hypebuzz FC thrash Beautiful Tour 6-1 to go top of the group on the last day of the group matches.

The score line, which ensured that the Hypebuzz FC topped the group with same 13 points same as Kings FC and Police Machine FC, drew the attention of the league organisers who vowed to sanction both clubs if found culpable.

The Secretary of the NLO in a statement in Monday said, “The Nationwide League One Secretariat hereby wish to draw your attention to the above listed league match played on 15th May 2023 in Bwari Stadium.

“The Nationwide League One Secretariat has placed the match under review. This is due to unusual high number of goals scored in the match being the last match of the group.

“The Nigeria Football Federation Technical department will study the full 90 minutes to detect if there are any elements of compromise.

“This decision shall be communicated to Nigeria Football Federation for further sanctions.”

Two clubs from Kaduna State, ABU Workers FC and Ambassadors FC were last week found guilty of match fixing.

While both clubs were fined ₦500, 000 each, ABU Workers FC coaches and players in the matchday list were banned for two years from football related activities.
