The police operatives attached to the Area Command Headquarters in Onitsha were on township patrol yesterday when they received a distress call around 9:30 pm regarding a kidnapping incident near Borromeo roundabout.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, and made available to the press, it was reported that the operatives swiftly responded to the distress call and intercepted a shuttle bus in which the kidnapped victim was being held.

According to Ikenga, the highly trained operatives skillfully engaged the kidnappers in a shootout, ensuring the safety of the hostage who was rescued unharmed.

He further revealed that two suspects were apprehended at the scene, while the others managed to escape with gunshot wounds.

The police team also recovered a Barret Pistol, nine rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and the shuttle bus used by the criminals for the kidnapping operation.

Ikenga went on to state that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, commended the police operatives for their remarkable achievement and urged them to intensify their efforts in apprehending the remaining gang members.

Additionally, CP Adeoye called upon hospitals in the area to report any individuals seeking treatment for gunshot injuries, as immediate medical attention could potentially save lives.
