As campaigns intensify ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, the people of Dunukofia Local Government Area have unanimously endorsed Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for a second term, donating ₦200 million to support his re-election bid.
The endorsement took place at the Dunukofia Local Government Secretariat during the community’s new yam festival, Iweife-Ubi, which also featured cultural displays, competitions, and the commissioning of the new legislative complex.
The event attracted top dignitaries, including the traditional ruler of Ukwulu, Igwe Peter Ughanwa Ezedike, the Mayor of Dunukofia, Hon. Clement Chijioke Ozumba, APGA stakeholders, traditional rulers, titled chiefs, and community leaders.
In his remarks, the President-General of Ukpo, Hon. Cyril Walter Ezewulu, declared that “Dunukofia is for Soludo,” adding that the local government is united in its resolve to return the governor to office.
Mayor Clement Ozumba praised Soludo’s developmental strides, noting that the governor has constructed over 13 kilometers of roads and built smart schools in the area, including the Community Primary School, Umunnachi.
Other speakers, including the Commissioner for Lands, Prof. Offornze Amucheazi (SAN), and representatives of youth, women, and beneficiaries of state programmes, commended Soludo’s achievements in education, healthcare, and skill development.
Presenting a ₦200 million cheque on behalf of the local government, Igwe Ezedike said the donation was a show of confidence in Soludo’s leadership, describing him as “a man of vision and results.”
Other support groups also made donations, including Dunukofia for Soludo (₦10 million), Ndinkiti (₦637,700), and Ukpo Ward (₦1 million).
Governor Soludo, who received the donations, expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming support, describing Dunukofia as a stronghold of APGA.
“I have never witnessed such massive love and solidarity since the campaign began,” he said.
He assured the community of continued development in his second term, listing his achievements in education, healthcare, and security.
“We have employed 8,115 teachers, upgraded public schools, built hospitals, and restored security. With your support, we’ll do even more,” Soludo said.
The colourful event also featured the Iwa Ji ceremony, cultural dances, and prize presentations for winners of the Farm-to-Table competition across categories such as cassava, yam, poultry, and vegetables.
