The Operation Clean Healthy Anambra (Ocha Brigade) has continues to demonstrate its commitment and competent in ensuring safety and healthy environment across Anambra state as they embarked on aggressive desilting of gutters in Okpoko ahead of forthcoming rain season.
Okpoko Community in Ogbaru Local Government area, near Onitsha Anambra State was formally known as a place where flooding wreack havock during rain season due to water channel blockages and lack of access roads now wears a new look in the current administration of Professor Charles Chukwma Soludo who have empowered Ocha Brigade agency that enforces environmental cleanliness and other related health offences.
There is no doubt that Ocha Brigade agency in its operation has made significant effort to reduce open defecation, indiscriminate wastes disposal and urination at unauthorized places in Onitsha including Niger bridge head and Owerri Road axis.
As if it is not enough, the agency has moved down to Okpoko Community to compliment the efforts of Professor Charles Soludo who have vowed to develop the Community like any other cities by transforming the area with social and infrastructural amenties.
Meanwhile, with the aide of excavator bulldozer, all the drainages and waste materials littering drainages especially within the vicinity of the newly built ultra modern General hospital in Okpoko have been completely evacuated by men of Ocha Brigade.
Other roads/Street’s gutters already desilted includes; Obodoukwu road and Owerri road axis which are now under strict monitoring by the agency since the residents and road users have resorted in disposing wastes during the night period.
Resident of Okpoko Community in their separate commendations, Chief Joseph Oyinuba, Mrs Josphine Ibejuba and Elder Ephraim Onwuka declared that they never witnessed Government presence in Okpoko except Professor Soludo’s administration.
They further expressed that empowering of Ocha Brigade agency by Professor Soludo is a brilliant approach to tackle environmental health solution in the State, saying that with the massive desilting of gutters in Okpoko, the residents would sleep with two eyes closed during the forthcoming rain season.
In a special way, they extolled the Managing Director (MD) of Oche Brigade agency, Chief Celestine Anere and the Onitsha unit coordinator of Oche Brigade, Mr. Ejike Odife who oversee the exercises going on in Okpoko, praying God to grant them more strength and protections.
