Fifteen newly promoted police officers serving in Zone 13 Ukpo-Dunukofia, Anambra State, and the Enugu State Police Command have been urged to demonstrate greater dedication and seriousness in their responsibilities.
Speaking at the event, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Godwin Ndidi Aghaulor, representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, reminded the officers that promotion comes with increased responsibilities. He noted that with a higher salary, expectations also rise.
“Promotion is a step forward in your career. However, some challenges may arise if you do not take the time to study and master your new roles. If the authorities have found you worthy of promotion, we expect you to reciprocate the gesture by excelling in your duties. Leadership requires diligence and commitment,” AIG Aghaulor said.
He added, “For instance, if you were a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and are now promoted to Assistant Commissioner (AC), you become an Area Commander. If you were an Area Commander and are now a Commissioner of Police, your responsibilities and the number of personnel under your supervision increase significantly. I hope you are prepared for this challenge. May God grant you the strength to succeed. For those yet to be promoted, your time is coming soon, and we pray for it to happen in Jesus’ name.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Paul Dung, speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, expressed gratitude to IGP Kayode Egbetokun for recognizing their efforts. He also commended AIG Aghaulor for organizing the ceremony, which officially marked their elevation in rank.
DCP Dung acknowledged that promotion is synonymous with additional responsibilities. He assured the police leadership that the newly promoted officers are ready to tackle the challenges of their new roles and would not disappoint. He also promised that they would work with renewed vigor to uphold the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.
