The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has commended the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, for his contributions to unity, cohesion and bringing lasting development to residents of Enugu State.
Speaking during the just-concluded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Christian body, held in Enugu for the first time, the President of CAN, His Eminence, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, praised the governor for his commitment to fostering harmony across faiths in the country.
He said: “We thank the Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for the hospitality extended to us since yesterday. Nigerians expect to see impactful collaboration with the government and other critical stakeholders to combine synergy in strengthening the institutions of government and agencies established to improve the livelihood of people.”
Archbishop Okoh further highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and religious organizations to improve the well-being of the people, saying, “Christians should also be reassured that we are ever ready to defend the Christian faith in such a way that we do not oppress others but collaborate in ensuring that Nigeria works for the benefits of all.”
He noted that the NEC meeting serves as a platform to discuss issues of national unity and other concerns while seeking ways to positively impact Nigerians regardless of religion, political leanings, or ethnic affiliations.
Reverend Emmanuel Edeh, the Chairman of CAN in Enugu State, also emphasized the role of Christians as critical stakeholders in Nigeria, urging them to pray for and support the government, as it aligns with God’s instructions.
The event, attended by delegates from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), marked the first time the NEC meeting was held outside Abuja.
Archbishop Okoh explained that the decision to rotate the meeting was to leverage it to benefit members and the grassroots.
