As the Christmas season approaches, the Special Assistant to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on Security and Homeland Affairs, Hon. Chike Samuel Ezenduka, has reassured residents of Anambra State of their safety.
He affirmed that the state’s security architecture is well-prepared to safeguard lives and property during the yuletide season.
Hon. Ezenduka urged individuals hiding in forests under the guise of seeking freedom to abandon their activities and embrace peace.
Speaking after receiving the “Smart Security Personnel and AVG Gallant Army of the Year 2024” award from Pechilly Investigative Media, he emphasized the state government’s unwavering commitment to combating criminality.
The security aide commended Governor Soludo for his pivotal role in restoring peace and security in Anambra.
“All of you can bear witness that those genuinely seeking freedom do not hide in the bush, carry guns, kidnap, kill, or harm their people. If you are agitating for something, be clear about your demands,” Ezenduka said.
He further criticized individuals engaging in violent crimes, such as kidnapping, carjacking, and causing unrest, describing their actions as unacceptable.
Ezenduka attributed the surge in criminal activities to the reasons security agencies have intensified efforts to ensure safety across the state.
The administrative head of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) praised the collaborative efforts of the Nigeria Police, military, navy, and vigilante groups working tirelessly to maintain peace and security.
“We will not rest until Anambra is completely safe. The lives and property of Ndi Anambra are our priority,” he declared.
Ezenduka reassured residents and visitors planning to celebrate Christmas in Anambra that the state would remain secure throughout the festivities.
He encouraged residents to defy the illegal sit-at-home orders imposed by non-state actors, stating, “There is no sit-at-home in Anambra. You cannot ask Anambrarians to stay indoors without cause. Even as we resist these orders, some individuals still use guns to shoot, kidnap, and harm innocent people.”
He called on all stakeholders, including the Church and community leaders, to join the fight against crime. Ezenduka also urged those hiding in forests to surrender, stating, “Humans live in homes, not in bushes—only animals do that.”
The Chief Executive Officer of Pechilly Investigative Media, Ambassador Karen James, who presented the award at Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area, commended Ezenduka for his contributions to enhancing security in Anambra. She described the award as a gesture of encouragement for his dedication to tackling security challenges in the state.
Ezenduka concluded by reiterating the state government’s determination to create a safe and secure environment for all during the festive season and beyond.
