The Managing Director of the Enugu State Rural Electrification Board, Engr. Christopher Nnamani Ezeoha, has been honored with a Distinguished Merit Award 2024 by an Enugu-based media group, Media Network Associates.
In a citation read by the Chairman of the Media Group, Comrade Norbert Okolo, it was noted that Engr. Christopher, through hard work from his days at NEPA to EEDC and now to ENREB, has become an authority in the energy industry.
He was commended for the exemplary leadership he has shown within his first year in office, including achievements such as reducing diesel consumption for powering streetlights in urban Enugu, and producing transformers for communities.
In response to the award, Engr. Christopher stated that the honor should go to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah, who gave ENREB a clear mandate to provide a twenty-four-hour power supply to the people of Enugu.
Engr. Christopher acknowledged that while achieving uninterrupted power might currently seem challenging, it is indeed possible.
He emphasized that ENREB is making systemic efforts to achieve this goal by partnering with international agencies, including the European Union, the World Bank, and other donor organizations. He expressed optimism that the results of these partnerships would soon become evident.
ENREB is already collaborating with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) on renewable energy projects, and plans are underway to work with the European Union, the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and other international agencies.
The goal is to ensure that underserved communities across Enugu State have access to renewable energy, providing them with a reliable twenty-four-hour electricity supply.
Additionally, ENREB aims to partner with UNIDO to harness Enugu State’s hydroelectric potential and leverage the natural gas reserves in Ugwuoba. Engr. Christopher emphasized the state’s commitment to elevating the electricity sector, making it more reliable and accessible.
Main Power is set to join ENREB in efforts to provide transformers to areas like Ugbawka, Mburumbu, Nara, Nomeh, and Nkerefi, which have been without electricity for over a decade. This intervention will be funded by the state, with funds recovered through Main Power.
His Excellency has also instructed that solar-powered lights be installed on all streets in Enugu as part of an initiative to enhance public safety and reduce crime.
Engr. Christopher affirmed that ENREB is fully committed to supporting the Governor’s vision to transform Enugu State and improve the lives of Ndi Enugu.
