In a chilling turn of events, a 23-year-old woman, Rahimat Salaum, has been accused of brutally murdering her husband, Shehu, during a violent altercation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Rahimat was on the verge of fleeing with her husband’s possessions when alert operatives of the Nigeria Police Force apprehended her.
The FCT Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, released a statement on Tuesday, revealing the harrowing details. Adeh disclosed that Rahimat had confessed to the crime and subsequently led the police to a grim discovery: her husband’s charred remains abandoned in an uncompleted building.
“The operatives of the FCT police command attached to Pegi police Division, on July 29, 2024, at about 6:00 p.m., acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Rahimat Salaum ‘F’ age 23yrs of Pegi, Abuja in connection to the killing of her husband,” Adeh stated.
The suspect, who had reportedly been missing for three days along with her paralysed husband’s belongings, was intercepted while attempting to escape in a mini-truck.
During the interrogation, Rahimat confessed to the crime, admitting that a heated argument with her husband escalated into violence, resulting in his death. In a desperate bid to cover her tracks, she set his body ablaze and discarded it in a nearby unfinished building.
As the investigation continues, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, assured the public that justice will be served. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities through the police emergency lines.
