In a decisive move to uphold professionalism and integrity, the Nigeria Police Force has taken stringent actions against indiscipline within its ranks.
Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, stressing the importance of serving with honor and integrity.
Several officers have faced sanctions following thorough investigations. A Police Inspector, Adabo Mohammed, was dismissed for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, and corrupt practices.
Mohammed, along with five others, was part of a gang responsible for robbing N29.8 million in Gwagwalada, FCT, and kidnapping Ikechukwu Emmanuel Okafor, collecting a ransom of N4.4 million. The ex-officer has been charged to court.
Additionally, three Inspectors from the Special Tactical Squad (STS) were demoted to Sergeants for extorting N29.4 million from motorists in Abuja. The incident, reported by Harrison Gwamnishu on social media, led to a thorough investigation and the officers’ subsequent demotion after an orderly room trial.
Senior officers are also under scrutiny, with several subjected to the Force Disciplinary Committee hearings to address allegations of misconduct.
This wave of disciplinary actions is part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing internal oversight, ethics training, and transparency in disciplinary procedures.
IGP Egbetokun assured the public that these measures are crucial for restoring trust and fostering accountability within the force. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ensuring its officers serve with integrity and respect.
