Women from Ndinwuba family in Amuzam, Obeagu community, Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, have protested against incessant arrest of their sons and husbands by the Anti-Cult unit of the Enugu State Police Command.
The protesters who stormed the headquarters of the police unit on Friday were seen chanting sorrowful songs while displaying placards with various inscriptions.
Some of the placards reads: Anti-Cult Enugu should stop arresting our Sons and husbands; Anti Cult Enugu should allow us to sleep; Ikechukwu Udengene, the investor should leave our land alone; The Commissioner of Police Enugu State should come to our aid; Ekegbo and his gang should stop terrorizing us; Timothy Ogbodo and his wife should leave Ndinwuba alone among others.
In an interview after registering their anger to the police, the leader of the women, Sharon Arum, said that women in the community no longer sleep with their two eyes closed due to constant arrests by the Police.
She explained that trouble started when the Chairman of Ndinwuba family was asked to step down and render an account but he rather refused and ran away from the community.
“The kindred said that since he was not willing to render an account, his immediate family should go and stay with him wherever he is. Since his family left the village, Timothy and his associates have deprived us of sleep. They have been coming to arrest our son’s with Anti Cult,” she explained.
According to her, “Even this morning, they came and arrested four of our sons and husbands. One of them, Emeka Nnamani was beaten and stripped naked. They damaged our houses. Before now, they had arrested four persons. There are three other persons who are missing.
“They should release our husbands and our sons to us. They should also stop arresting our people. They are threatening our lives. If the chairman wanted peace, he would have just rendered the accounts he was asked to, but he doesn’t want peace”, she pleaded.
