The Abia State chapter of Congress of Civil Society Group has stated that releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would at large extent solve the insecurity challenges in the country instead of using bullets and guns.
The human rights group made the disclosure while reacting to the recent comments which they said the Nigerian Chief of Defence staff, ( CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa made when he led other Service Chiefs to the House of Representatives on the issue of security situation of the country.
In a statement titled ” Nigeria violation of International law Hunting Them” which was signed by the state coordinator of the group, Comrade Damian Ogudike and made available to newsmen, he said that Gen. Musa accused the Finland based Biafra agitator, Mazi Simon Ekpa of fuelling the flames of insecurity across the South Eastern region, adding that Mazi Ekpa remaind a key issue that must be looked into by Federal Government, that he has become menace to the country and his actions have resulted in crippling socio-economic activities as well as destruction of both private and public properties.
” May we inform you CDS that we warned Nigerian Security agencies to stop sending their men to fight these unknown gun men and apply a peaceful approach to solve the problem. The former President late Umaru Yaradua fought MEND in Niger Delta with guns and machine guns and failed”
At least, he introduced amnesty to the agitators. This policy and strategy brought the violence to an end . Why not you change approach ? From the survey we conducted, the only option Nigeria Government has as a state is to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Releasing him will at large extent solve the CDS challenges. Bullets and guns can never kill Ideology “
Comrade Ogudike went further said that they heard the Chief of Defence staff saying that the Finland Government should rendition Mazi Simon Ekpa, contending that such demand might not see the light of the day, even as he noted that Finish Government see Nigeria as a state who do not respect neither international laws and even their own laws.
” Chief of Defence staff, may we remind you that it was on record that the United Nations ( UN) committee Working Group on Arbitrary Detention ( WGAD) had on April 4, 2022 adopted a report which stated that Nigeria Government should release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the said report indicated both your country Nigeria and Kenya Governments for illegal arrest and extraordinary rendition, torture and continued detention of Kanu in the facility of Department of Security Services (DSS)”
The human rights activit continued saying ” CDS, are you aware that the report further gave Nigeria Government six months within which they would state its opinion on Kanu’s matter, steps taken to comply with all the recommendations thereof?”
” Secondly, all the Nigerian courts have set Mazi Kanu free from all accusations and allegations yet, the Executive arm of Government ignores and still hold him”
He, however, said” With all these violation of laws , do you think any Nation will take Nigeria serious on your demand on Simon Ekpa ?. So, he who goes to equity must go with clean hands. CDS, if the Executives starts to obey both local and international laws, Finish Government will listen to your demand” Said Ogudike..
