A 35-year-old man, identified as Yellow has been arrested by local security operatives in Ibere Abia State, Nigeria for raping a 5-year-old girl in his room.
After an angry mob had descended on him, beating him mercilessly, he confessed to having sex with the minor.
He admitted that he lured the girl into his room with groundnuts.
The suspect who begged the angry villagers for forgiveness, claimed that he was misled by the devil to commit the act.
He also blamed the cold weather from the rain for heightening his sexual desires.
He narrated that he was eating groundnuts with his friends but later entered his compound to retrieve something.
He said that upon getting into the building, he saw the girl and offered her some groundnuts after which she followed him inside his room and he raped her.
The suspect further claimed that he tried to be gentle with the child during the act.
The child has been rushed to the hospital by her family for medical attention.
The 35-year-old rapist has been handed over to local security personnel for subsequent transfer to the police, who would conduct an investigation into the case.
The Public Relations Officer in Abia State, Maureen Chinaka, did not respond to messages sent to her regarding the matter.
This incident occurred barely four months after a 37-year-old man, Chiemela Ekeke, was sentenced to life imprisonmemt in Umuahia, Abia State for raping a 4-year-old girl.
