The Standards Organization of Nigeria ( SON) have awarded the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Program ( MANCAP) certificate to twelve deserving companies that have maintained the prestigious awards of quality.
The awards presentation ceremony took place at Standards Organization of Nigeria Anambra State office 11, Nnewi.
It attracted the presence of various companies who came to receive MANCAP Certification and MANCAP Revalidation respectively.
Among the companies that received MANCAP certification included; Denco foam Industries Limited, Ngo Bros & Company Nigeria Limited, Namco Oil & Gas Limited, Mollas Choice Confectionery Limited and Roban Store Limited, Nnewi.
Promotex Industrial & Chemical Company Limited, Vecan cable Limited, Cutix Plc, Geoelis cable Limited, High class foods Nigeria Limited and Event Beverage Limited also received MANCAP revalidation.
Delivering his welcome address during the ceremony, the Director General of Standards Organization of Nigeria, Mallam Farouka Salim represented by the Director Anambra regional Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON), Mathias Bessy noted that the awards does not come easy as it is painstaking and involved the dedication and commitments of the staff and thorough examination of the manufacturers.
He urged the manufacturers not to relent in ensuring that quality is maintained at all times because it is not cheap.
“Quality is a benchmark, and SON as Nigeria’s apex bureau of Standards cannot compromise in its mandate hence it is consistently awarding deserving companies that have met with the prescribed requirements for the award of MANCAP Certificate”
“With the establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AFCFTA), Nigeria cannot afford to be at the background and so, manufacturers and other service providers in the country must adhere strictly to the requirements of standards and standardization activities as enunciated by SON in order to facilitate trade between her and other countries” Said the Director.
According to the (SON) Chief Executive Officer, standardization is the key to every sector of our national economy and the SMEs which accounts for about 39.65% of business in Nigeria and employ more than 87.9% of the nation’s workforce is of a greater interest to the SON in its standardization and quality assurance drive, bearing in mind that the more many companies are certified, the more our products will be accepted.
He conclusively urged manufacturers to ensure that they imbibe the culture of standards and quality in Nigeria so as the largest economy in Africa, it occupies its rightful place in the comity of nations.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, the representative of Tummy-Tummy foods Nigeria Limited, Mr. Chimezie Emenike lauded SON for awarding them certificate, assuring them that the certificate would ginger his colleagues to maintain standards of their products, even as he eulogized SON for encouraging manufacturers.
In his vote of thanks, the Anambra 11 state coordinator for SON, Chief Chukwudi Micheal Ogbuji advised manufacturers to strictly adhere to the standards which they were awarded certificate for, adding that the certificate covers each of their products and would aide them to export their products and advertise them in the media space.
He equally reminded them that the certificate could only be withdrawn from them if a manufacturer ceases to operate in Nigeria or if he fails to maintain the standards.
Some of the dignitaries at the ceremony included, Area commander Nnewi Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogumjiofor Alexander represented State Commandant, Osuala Edwin, State Sector Commander Federal Roads Safety Corps( FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi, represented by Irechukwu Reginard and Admini Secretary, Autor manufacturers and Importers Association, Ifennatu Chukwu amongst other.
