A middle-aged woman in Aba, Abia State, caused a stir yesterday when she physically assaulted her husband for daring to question her relationship with a local pastor.
The woman, a mother of three whose identity remains unknown, resides on Ukonu Street, off the Ajah-Ngwa Road area of Aba South. According to witnesses, her husband expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that she provided the pastor with better quality and quantity of food than she did for their own family.
In response to her husband’s observation, the woman, who is a member of the pastor’s church, became infuriated and resorted to slapping, pushing, and restraining her husband on the ground. It was only when neighbours intervened that he was able to escape her wrath.
Furthermore, she threatened to leave their marital home, claiming that her husband and neighbours were unjustly monitoring her activities and falsely accusing her of engaging in inappropriate behaviour.
An elderly resident in the vicinity, who preferred to remain anonymous, informed Daily Sun that rumors have been circulating about the pastor’s alleged flirtatious behavior with young women, even in the presence of their spouses.
Although no one has openly accused the pastor of having an affair with his wife, the rumors persist.
The resident stated, “While the pastor acts as if nothing is amiss, we cannot dismiss these rumors as baseless. The fact that the woman physically assaulted her husband and threatened divorce over his questioning of her behavior suggests that there is indeed something going on between her and the pastor.”
Another resident, who also wished to remain anonymous, called upon the authorities to implement measures to monitor the activities of new generation churches.
This would ensure that these institutions genuinely guide people towards righteousness, rather than becoming platforms for the destruction of marriages.
It is crucial for authorities to address these concerns and establish mechanisms to regulate the conduct of new generation churches.
By doing so, they can safeguard the sanctity of marriages and prevent potential harm caused by unscrupulous individuals within religious communities.
