
There is an ongoing protest by women in Eha-Alumona community over the murder of Nelson Sylvester, the Councillor representing Eha-Ulo ward, in Nsukka Local Government Area Legislative Council, Enugu State.
The lawmaker was shot dead on Sunday night at his residence in Eha-Alumonah, a development that has sparked tension in the town and other neighbouring communities.
The women who marched out in large numbers are demanding that those behind the dastardly act be apprehended and prosecuted.
It was also learnt that the lawmaker has been fighting against crime in the community and had successfully arrested and handed over many suspected criminals to the Police.
Although details of the incident are still sketchy, a competent source disclosed that the assailants stormed the lawmaker’s house and started raining bullets on him.
He added that the Councilor ran into a neighbouring compound, from where his lifeless body was later recovered.
The source, who described the suspected assassination as one too many, added that “it is heartbreaking; it is too hard for us to swallow. We are in deep agony.”
Meanwhile, Enugu State Police Command has arrested one male suspect over the murder of a Councillor, Nelson Sylvester Nnacheta on Sunday.
According to the Police Spokesman in Enugu, Daniel Ndukwe, the suspect is a members of the criminal gang which committed the dastardly act.
The statement reads: “Police Operatives of the Command have arrested one (1) male suspect and a member of the criminal gang, alleged to have attacked and murdered one Duhu Nelson Sylvester Nnacheta (a.k.a “Ofunwa”) “m”, identified as the Councilor representing Eha-Ulo Ehalumona Council Ward, on 16/07/2023 at about 11.30pm, at Umualoji Village in Ehalumona community of Nsukka LGA.
Ndukwe also revealed that the Commissioner of Police in the state Ahmed Ammani, has ordered intense discreet investigation and manhunt of the assailants as further development shall be communicated in due course.
