There is tension in both Enugu and Nsukka urban centres and other communities in Enugu State over raging war between rival cult groups in the state.
As of today, no less than 30 persons have been gruesomely murdered by rival cult gangs operating in the state.
Pictures of decapitated young men have been trending on WhatsApp over the past few weeks.
At least 14 persons have been reported killed in Emene, Eke-Obinagu and Abakpa. There have also been reported killings in Trans Ekulu and around New Haven.
About two weeks ago, a young man suspected to be a cult leader was murdered close to New Haven Junction by unknown cultists, a development which some attributed to have escalated the war.
In Nsukka, eyewitnesses say about 11 persons have been killed. It was observed that popular joints in Nsukka now close as early as 6pm while most streets are deserted at night.
Communities not left out in the cult war in Nsukka area include, Ehalumona town in Nsukka Local Government Area and Orba town in Udenu Local Government Area where some deaths have been reported.
Some individuals who did not want to be mentioned called on the state Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to impose a curfew on Nsukka town to avert further killings. This is as the conflict continues to spread to other areas.
Despite the number of killings witnessed so far, the Enugu State government and security agencies, including the State Police command have remained silent on the matter.
This is in line with the doctrine of silence which the government and its officials have come to be known for in Enugu State.
