A Security expert conversant with the Lake Chad Region, Zagazola Makama, has reported that the Islamic State in Greater Sahara (EIGS) leaders have deployed massively Niger Republic including the areas of Abala (Filingue), Banibongou and Ouallam in the first week of April 2023.
According to the information, they left in about 40 heavily armed teams with motorcycles handlebars ready to fight. Each of the fighter were equipped with a motorcycle, a talkie-walkie device, a pair of night vision twins (JVN).

The various teams consisted of fighters of different ethnicities. Some of them were recently recruited and others voluntarily returned to the Jihadists ranks.
It was gathered that some of the fighters came from the Malian locality of Akabar located about 75 km southwest of Menaka.
The Emir Djoulde Farojé alias Hatab who commands the fighters in this area has, according to the source, decided to attack the locations of Abala Filingué, Tilia, and Doutchi.
According to the source, the order given mostly to the new fighters is to lead during the month of Ramadan, actions against the Niger military and those of partner countries assisting.
