The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Enugu State, has granted the application of the governorship candidates of the Labour Party, Chijioke Edeoga, to access and inspect sensitive election materials deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the conduct of the March 18 governorship polls in the state.
The election petition tribunal also granted the same request to the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party, Nnamdi Omeje to access and inspect sensitive election materials to enable them build their petitions.
Sahara Reporters had reported that INEC declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Peter Mbah, as the winner of the controversial election after allocating over 16,000 votes to the PDP candidate despite allegations of over-voting and results manipulation in the Nkanu East Local Government Area.
It had been reported that INEC officials inflicted the figure of Nkanu East actual results and padded the score of the PDP candidate with over 30,000 votes.
Consequently, there were protests and later INEC reduced the score to 16,000 votes and declared Mbah of PDP the winner of the election after four days of the poll.
However, speaking to some journalists on Friday in Enugu, the Secretary of the Tribunal, Yusuf Folmi, explained that so far, the tribunal had received 14 election petitions arising from the February 25, National Assembly elections.
Out of this number, 12 of the petitions are for the House of Representatives and two are for the Senate seat contests.
Three political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; Labour Party, LP, and the All Progressive Congress, APC are challenging the outcome of the elections at different levels and constituencies.
